Staying in Mountain City
Mountain City is Johnson County’s seat in the far northeastern corner of the state, a few miles from Virginia and North Carolina. It’s a quiet base for Watauga Lake, Backbone Rock, Doe Mountain and the Virginia Creeper country; lodging is mostly cabins, B&Bs and campgrounds.
