Staying in Clingmans Dome
There’s no lodging at Clingmans Dome — it’s a high, paved climb off Clingmans Dome Road inside the national park, and the road closes in winter. Gatlinburg is the closest tourist base for an early start or a sunset; Townsend and Wears Valley are quieter, with a longer drive up through the park.
