History: Tennessee’s first wind farm
Buffalo Mountain, near Windrock, was home to Tennessee’s first wind farm: TVA installed three test turbines in 2000, and a larger Invenergy wind farm followed in 2004. TVA removed its original three turbines in 2021, and the Invenergy turbines were reported retired in December 2024. Come for the ridge views and the story — not to see a working wind farm.
