Staying in Johnson City

Johnson City is the largest city in the Tri-Cities and the easiest place to base a trip to the northeast corner of the state. ETSU, the downtown restaurants along the Tweetsie Trail and Buffalo Mountain are all close, and Jonesborough’s Main Street, Elizabethton’s covered bridge and Boone, Watauga and South Holston lakes are a short drive out. Chain hotels cluster along the interstate and North Roan Street.

Before you book

  • Big weekends (football, festivals, conventions) fill rooms early — book ahead or stay a little farther out.
  • Interstate hotels are easiest for a late arrival; downtown inns put you within walking distance of dinner.
  • Check parking and pet rules before you book — they vary by property.
