Tellico Lake

Little Tennessee lake near Vonore — Fort Loudoun State Historic Park and the snail darter story.

Tellico Lake is TVA’s reservoir on the lower Little Tennessee River, behind Tellico Dam — the dam at the center of the 1970s snail darter fight. A canal links it to Fort Loudoun Lake.

History sits right on the shore: Fort Loudoun State Historic Park and the Sequoyah Birthplace Museum are both near Vonore, on land that was once the heart of the Overhill Cherokee towns.
